Description

Autism spectrum disorder may first be identified in the school setting. Diagnostic criteria reflecting males may make it difficult to identify females on the autism spectrum. Learn how to effectively assess females and nuanced presentation who may have autism spectrum disorder.

 

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1.       Discuss differences in interpretation of assessment data for female and nuanced presentation of autism

2.       Explore recommendations to support autism in females and nuanced presentations

3.       Identify targeted, empirically supported assessment approaches to more effectively identify nuanced presentations of autism

Dr. Jay Trenhaile presents Counseling and Therapeutic Interventions for Students With an Intellectual Disability

Description

This session will include a review of research-based programs and practical interventions for students with intellectual disabilities, a discussion on current strategies as described by veteran therapists, and the sharing of resources among colleagues.

 

 

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1.       Identify the unique challenges and opportunities of counseling students with an intellectual disability, including those from Indigenous populations

2.       Implement successful and effective treatment interventions, counseling strategies, and programs for individuals with an intellectual disability

3.       Recognized useful resources in working with students with an intellectual disability
